Please arrive freshly showered, free from body oil, moisturiser or fake tan. If hygiene concerns are present, we may need to reschedule your appointment out of respect for everyone involved. Massage is close, hands on work and coming clean makes the hour more comfortable for you and for your therapist.

Many Irish health insurance policies refund part of the cost of massage therapy when it is carried out by a recognised therapist. Relax Be Well is accredited with Irish Life Health and Laya Healthcare, and is a member of the Irish Massage Therapists Association and ANMT, so treatments here can be submitted to those insurers. How much you get back depends on your individual policy and level of cover, so it is worth checking your plan details before you claim. Ask us for a receipt showing the treatment, the date and our accreditation details, and send it to your insurer with their standard claim form.

Buccal TMJ massage is a targeted treatment for the jaw. Alongside work on the face, temples and neck, the therapist releases the jaw muscles from inside the mouth using a gloved hand, which reaches muscles that cannot be worked on from the outside. It is used for jaw tension, clenching and grinding, jaw clicking and the headaches that often come with them. It should not be painful. Tight jaw muscles are usually tender, so you may feel a strong sensation as a muscle lets go, and some people notice mild soreness the following day, much as they would after any deep tissue work.

Pregnancy massage at Relax Be Well uses gentle, Swedish-style techniques and light to moderate pressure to ease the muscular and circulatory discomforts that come with pregnancy. Pregnancy massage at Relax Be Well is available from 20 weeks of pregnancy onwards. Each treatment is carefully adapted for your comfort, using supportive pillows and side-lying positioning. It can help ease back, hip and muscular tension, reduce stress and promote relaxation. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or any complications, please check with your GP or midwife before booking.

Yes. Oncology massage, also called cancer care massage, is designed for exactly this. It uses light touch and slow, gentle movement, following the direction of the lymphatic system to encourage fluid transport and the removal of waste from the tissues, and it is adapted to where you are in treatment and how you feel on the day. Please tell us about your diagnosis and current treatment when you book so that the session can be planned properly.

Deep tissue massage works slowly and firmly into the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release long-standing restriction, tension and pain, using fingertips, knuckles, forearms and elbows. It suits chronically tight areas such as a stiff neck, a tight lower back or sore shoulders. Sports massage is built around physical activity rather than accumulated tension. It treats the imbalances that repetitive training and minor injury create in muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia, and it can be used before an event to prepare the body or afterwards to aid recovery and reduce the risk of injury. In short, deep tissue releases what has built up over time, while sports massage keeps a body that trains regularly working well.

Manual lymphatic drainage, or MLD, is the gentler of the two. It uses very light pressure and slow, rhythmic, repetitive movements to stimulate the lymphatic system, supporting natural drainage, reducing swelling and fluid retention and encouraging healthy circulation. Brazilian lymphatic drainage, or BLD, is more dynamic. It combines drainage with faster, firmer movements and a sculpting element, so as well as reducing fluid retention and puffiness it works on body contour and leaves the body feeling lighter, smoother and more defined. Choose MLD if you want gentle therapeutic drainage, and BLD if you want a firmer treatment with a shaping result.

Once you have booked, you will be sent a health history form to complete before you come in. At the appointment we start by going through what you have written, then carry out a wellness assessment so we understand what is going on and what you want from the treatment. The massage itself is adapted to that. Afterwards you get one to one guidance and practical tips for managing your particular issue between appointments.
